On Homelessness (Part 1)

Posted by Brian on Aug 15 2011

By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. (Hebrews 11:8–NIV2011)

So in a meeting this morning it was confirmed that we are going to have to sell our house in Bloomington, IL.  This means within the next six weeks we will have moved, but we have no idea yet where we will be.  We had planned to sell our house next year.  After Andrew had graduated from High School.  After we had a year to de-clutter, patch up, and fix up.  It’s not our ideal scenario, but we are trusting that God is moving us more quickly for a reason.

I’ve used the passage above throughout the years because it describes a crucial historical moment.  In asking Abraham to leave home and move to a place he didn’t know God was setting in motion a part of his redemptive plan that continues to have repercussions to this very day.   We believe that God has called us to be his agents of redemption in the world.  We are being called to live in another place and another culture to participate in his plan.  God has a history of providing homes for the homeless, and we are praying and trusting that he knows where we are going even though, at the present, we don’t know.

Please join us in praying that, first, his will is done, and secondly, that we can know what that is. :-)  Thanks from your fellow pilgrims on the journey.
