As I mention in the Welcome post, some friends who are beginning a video production company and I are working on a video series. The first one we’ve been working on is going to be dealing with basic theology. The working title is “Digging Deeper: Giving Roots to Your Faith.” The idea is that many Christians have been reading their Bible, listening to teaching and preaching, participating in their community of faith, and thinking about God in relation to their life and their world for years, but they would like to deepen their understanding of their faith in a systematic way. This video series is designed to help deepen an already existing faith.

It is also my hope that the sales and use of these videos in the US by churches, groups, and individuals will fund the ability to make these available for free in missions contexts in languages like Spanish. I also hope that they will help fund trips for me to continue to do teaching in places like the Dominican Republic as I do with G.O. Ministries.

So far so good, but here’s where you come in. As I have been writing these sessions, and as we have done some video tests, it is obvious to me that we need some dedicated prayers to help this project come through and for it to be the useful tool we want it to be.

Here are the main concerns:

1) this is a different kind of writing than I have ever done. It’s not like writing a sermon or lesson because it has to be scripted, whereas in those form of speaking I tend to have the general outline and some ways I want to say things and then take it from there. It’s also not like formal writing which come across as stilted on the screen. It’s not even exactly like popular-level writing because things that explain well and look fine on the written page do not necessarily sound well and video well. So pray for me to learn what I’m doing to communicate this important information in a way that is proper for this medium.

2) This may come as a complete surprise for many of you but I’m having a hard time learning how to come across correctly in front of the camera. Trust me, this was a huge surprise for my wife who said, “You’ll be fine. You’re a big ham.” But this is a skill to learn as well. It’s kind of weird, because it is me learning to act in a way that comes across in video like me just being myself. In the tests we have shot I just look angry. So anyway, again, I don’t want to stand in the way of the message.

Now some of you know me very well. I can get discouraged very easily when something like this ends up being more difficult than I had hoped. Would you partner with us by praying for this matter? I really want these videos to be useful to the Church and to be used in a positive way to help others grow in their faith.
